Brendale South 110kV BESS Connection

Brendale BESS is a large-scale battery energy storage system adjacent to South Pine Substation in Brisbane’s northern suburbs. The 110kV connection joins the BESS to the existing substation infrastructure and includes Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) under South Pine Road.

Key Scope & Capabilities:

  • Site preparation and construction of temporary access tracks to support plant, cable drum trailer access, and construction activities.
  • Supply and installation of HV, earthing, and fibre conduits with spacers, comprising trenching and stabilised flowable fill backfill and including crossing under live existing Energex asset
  • Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) under South Pine Road (dual carriageway) and existing third-party utility assets
  • Utilisation of 10t capstan winch and 21t HV cable trailer to install 110kV HV cable system into conduits and a direct buried section within South Pine Substation, including clamping to sealing end structures
  • Verification and monitoring of cable pulling tension calculations
  • Installation of fibre pits, fibre link connections, and associated earthing and fibre cables
