Located near Jandowae in Queensland’s Western Downs region, Wambo Wind Farm is a major renewable energy project with capacity of 506MW.
AEC commenced Stage 1 works in February 2024 and completed Stage 2 works in September 2025, delivering all underground electrical reticulation across the 125 km2 site.
AEC was selected to complete construction on the project based on our proven track record with Yurika, including projects such as Clarke Creek Wind Farm, Moura Solar Farm, and Cowra Solar Farm export line, demonstrating quality delivery under complex conditions.
The project involved challenging operational, environmental, and cultural heritage conditions, including EPBC-listed areas, narrow working corridors, multiple DAF waterway and public road crossings, and landowner livestock on-site, compounded by lengthy periods of wet weather.
AEC successfully managed these constraints while delivering more than 145 km of trenching and installing more than 440km of 33kv cables to service 83 turbine locations, coordinating with all stakeholders to ensure safety, compliance, and program efficiency.
Built with the tallest wind turbines in Australia at 247m high, once operational, Wambo Wind Farm will generate enough electricity to power approximately 312,000 homes, supporting Queensland’s 70% renewable energy target by 2032 and creating over 200 direct local jobs.
