Utility-scale energy projects don’t happen overnight — and our work at Brendale is a perfect example of what long-term collaboration, technical expertise, and a committed team can achieve.
AEC is delivering the Brendale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), with the first two stages energised in 2025 and Stage 3 set for completion in 2026.
As an end-to-end project, AEC handled the early design through to final energisation, with the project showing the full breadth of AEC’s power infrastructure capabilities.
“The work at Brendale has been one of our most important projects to date for AEC’s Power Infrastructure division. The Project teams’ focus on safety, quality and project delivery on time, and on budget, led to Powerlink awarding AEC the stage 3, 275kv EHV connection”, said Colin Roe, GM of Power Infrastructure.
AEC maintained a strong presence at Brendale throughout 2024-25, with three different projects nearby South Pine Station, including work on the Brendale BESS 132kV EHV Connection, Brendale Supernode BESS 275kv EHV Connection, Brendale Supernode BESS and further power infrastructure works on behalf of Quinbrook Equity Partners.
In AEC’s first year entering the EHV connections market we successfully set up and trained a EHV installation project team that have become contractor of choice for Powerlink in 2025. The team has installed a total of 10.5 kilometres of EHV cable, connecting four new BESS facilities to the grid; predominantly as Principal Contractor conducting design, procurement, installation, and testing.
Projects like Brendale are a reminder of why we do what we do — delivering complex power infrastructure that supports the energy transition, strengthens the grid, and sets communities up for the future.
