On the back of a successful work with All Energy Contracting (AEC) on other utility-scale solar farms in New South Wales, GRS and Fotowatio Renewable Ventures Australia (FRV) selected AEC to complete the full balance of electrical works at Walla Walla Solar Farm.
At its peak, more than 250 of AEC’s contractors were on site at Albury during 12 months of construction. AEC completed above and below ground electrical works on Walla Walla Solar Farm in Albury NSW in July 2024.
AEC also competently completed all Solar Power Conditioning Unit (PCU) testing, rendering the solar farm ready for energisation months before hold point testing.
Now, more than 700,000 solar modules are installed at Walla Walla, making a significant contribution to the Australian Government’s target of installing more than 60milion 500-watt solar panels by 2030. Once operational, the solar farm has capacity to supply more than 90,000 households with clean power, offsetting 520,000 tonnes of carbon each year.
TransGrid will design and construct a substation on site. Meanwhile, an existing transmission line will connect the solar farm and the electricity network. Microsoft has signed a power purchase agreement to use Walla Walla’s solar energy to power its Australian data centres for 15 years. The 600-plus hectare solar farm to generate power for up to 30 years.Total capacity delivered by FRV and AEC via Sebastopol Solar Farm, Metz Solar Farm and now Walla Walla is more than 1.6GW clean energy.
